after reading on www.chow.com about how disgusting americans are with our huge portions and proclivity for “doggie bags”, i got this email in regards to a controversial hotdog spread at deanna’s place of employment…
“I have a whole bag of chips [leftover] because they’re low fat… someone actually went out to the store to buy regular chips.”
it does make you wonder why there aren’t more morbidly obese people wandering around…
what’s with dallas and its various business people closing/tearing down landmarks? ever the proprietor of advancement (snicker) dallas found it prudent to tear down and fill in the good latimer tunnel, which was one of the few outdoor public art spaces in the city, and a landmark and memory keeper for just about anyone who has lived their 15th-25th years in the city. now, good ole norman brinker is closing the original Chili’s restaurant. yes, the little store that could, through which he made his fortune and the brinker name, isn’t keeping up with expectations. though, how could it considering no one even knew it was there? it’s less than a mile from the main dallas thoroughfare, hwy 75, 5 minutes away from Brinker International headquarters, but nothing was ever done to promote that. carlsbad caverns can afford a billboard in grand prairie, but norman can’t afford one 1/2 mile from his original store. i don’t care if it was a hellhole in which i had a nervous breakdown. i want to be able to drive by occasionally, and even stop in for a shake and know that i was part of the fine chili’s lineage that’s continuing even now.
i’m just really put out with people who care more about the bottom line than about preserving history and culture. who the f*ck cares if it gets torn down, as long as norm gets his billion dollar paycheck? screw norman and his little ski-pole crutches. a man who won’t even organize a team for the komen, his ex-wife’s foundation!, doesn’t get sympathy from me.
my boss sounds exactly like ray romano sometimes, which can make it very hard to take him seriously.
i know this isn’t the most insightful post in the world, but it’s been crazy busy and the real things in my head will take more than 30 seconds to get out.
i hate to abandon thinkforfree/boothead but it’s been so long since i blogged there, and so much has changed. it just seemed time for a new blog, so here we are. no longer between I-35, but dodging traffic in an attempt to make it to the other side and see what’s out there. wish me luck!
